The therapeutic relationship is an important part of healing.

Modalities Include:

  • Help with detachment from traumatic material (emotional triggers), finding a new context for our suffering and bringing mindfulness into our daily life.

  • Counselling that takes its lead from you, helping to create a space of trust, support and deep listening. Being understood is central to the professional counselling relationship.

  • Learning to be our own best friend, grapple with harsh and critical inner voices, and treat ourselves with the kindness and care we treat other people. It works slowly and imperceptibly over time and with repetition - like mind training.

  • Problem-solving, goal oriented therapy that gives us a sense of ownership, agency and direction in navigating an issue. More the WHAT and HOW than the WHY approach.

  • Increases our confidence in the language we use to tell our story to ourselves and others, understanding that we are the experts in our own lives.

  • A simple, straightforward yet counter-intuitive approach to sorting out our issues. Informs mindfulness therapeutic work and opens us up to a different way of seeing. Human philosophy as well as personal psychology.

  • Expands our awareness and tolerance and increases our here and now awareness.

  • Using our rational mind to reframe our experience, and change our behaviour.

Values

Compassionate counselling values mission

Mission

“ My mission is to offer clients unconditional positive regard, compassionate listening, trauma-informed psycho-education, and evidence-based recovery techniques.

I believe you are a person with a whole history, worldview and set of circumstances that only you can fully know about and what we can do together is open up your own awareness of yourself and your strengths and weaknesses so you can decide how to overcome your challenge.

Deeper work over longer seasons can be helpful for clients who are inclined to search for reasons ‘why’, and want to untangle blocks or habitual patterns they feel are stopping them from fulfilling their potential. These kinds of insights can arise from counselling and the practice of mindfulness techniques. “

Trauma Expertise

“Mine is a resilience-informed, evidence-based, lived-experience practice, with deeper training in Grief & Loss, Trauma (PTSD) and Abuse - in particular Narcissistic Abuse Syndrome (recovery from psychological, emotional and financial abuse by personality-disordered partners or family).

My approach is to work in areas such as meaning, purpose, gratitude, self-compassion, radical self-care and altruism as well as mindfulness-based compassion-focussed methodologies for management of difficult emotional reactions like panic, anxiety and depression. "
